Antique late 18th century bureau cylinder top desk in the English Sheraton manner. This well made piece of Georgian furniture era has two lower drawers above a pull out writing surface that opens the cylinder top, revealing a fitted interior.
The superb inlay with fruitwood and boxwoods and the butterfly crest centre is carried forward in the lower drawer escutcheons.
All locks work with keys.
The taper legs were originally demountable so that they would fit into the drawers when the desk was moved onto ship.
Note the Naval anchor emblems to the handles indicating trade and commerce. 1780
