This gorgeous antique rosewood Louis XV French writing desk dates to 1870 and has a wonderful warm patina. The bonheur du jour is ormolu mounted with marquetry depicting foliate sprays in kingwood, amaranth and tulipwood. The shaped rectangular top has a bronze gallery and a fitted interior with a tooled dark-red, leather-lined writing surface. There are three walnut-lined drawers and a secret compartment. The desk has fine cabriole legs headed with flowerheads and terminating in pierced rockwork sabots. The desk is in good, original condition.
