French original pencil sketch of a neoclassic beauty of the French Empire period presented in antique gilt carved frame
This beautifully worked pencil drawing is exquisite in its details and shows the great skill of this artist. The rare use of the pencil may have been in anticipation of a future copper plate engraving .
The lady pictured has the countenance of a classic Roman beauty and resembles the sister of Napoleon, Pauline Borghese Bonaparte (1780-1825).
She was the only sibling of Napoleon to visit him in exile at Elba.
Simply signed in pencil lower right with initials.
