Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture with the power to make good harvests, grow fruitfulness. She is carved from the pure white Cararra marble. The flawless white stone head is combined with a darker brown marble bust to represent the earth that Ceres blesses.
A wheat sheaf sprouts from her bosom symbolises the harvest and prosperity.
A paper label is attached under the base from the previous owner who purchased this statue in Milan and brought it to Australia in 1940.
