Oil painting harbour signed James Ashton

Antique original oil painting on canvas Harbour docklands in gilt wood frame signed lower right J Ashton. James Ashton (1859-1935) was born in York and educated in London. he emigrated to Adelaide Sa 1884 establishing the Norwood School of Arts 1886. A very gifted artist he loved painting outdoors in watercolour and his oil paintings are rare treasures. He returned to England in 1894 and was elected to the Royal Society of Arts and returned to his family in Australia the following year. Listed Australian artist this London Thames docks scene would most likely date to 1894-1895.
