Tables such as these are very very rare.
By the mid 18th century virtually all the Cuban mahogany had been felled. Cuban is far heavier and denser that Honduras mahogany and highly prized.
Tea had only just become fashionable amongst the aristocracy . It was also very very expensive and very limited to the most wealthy.
This tea table has a hold over mechanism with brass hinges and swing out back leg.
When opened the ceremony of tea making could begin .
