Very rare set of six Dutch elm dining chairs of the Directoire Empire era 1790-1800 with rare masur birch inlay and ebony stringing.
The elegantly curved sleigh backs offer superb comfort and the unique Directoire simplicity with masur and Alrot veneer inlays to the curved form of a lighthouse, a quite unique design.
These chairs may have been made for a naval or navigation room hence the lighthouse backs. They are strong and sturdy and are raised in the neoclassical manner with taper front legs.
Vintage upholstered in woven horsehair fabric.
