French riverscape oil painting signed

Original Oil painting on canvas antique boats and windmill early 1900's European riverscape with indistinct signature Lrc. The canvas is stretched on a hand adzed wooden frame consistent with 18th century woodwork. It is common practice to overpaint on top of an old antique canvas painting and this may have been the case. However the landscape painting is very good quality and has been signed by the artist to the front and again on the back of the canvas. I wonder what lies beneath the current paint ..perhaps an old masterpiece??..... French dated 1929
